• The choice of the electrode material and shape has an influence on the quality of the weld joint. Welding electrodes do not only transmit the welding current to the workpiece, but also the electrode force. Thus, they have to fulfill electrical as well as mechanical conditions. Shape, mass and electrode material and its electrical and thermal conductivity have an immediate effect on the thermal balance of the welding process.
